Perhaps you’ve been considering starting an organic garden. It is certainly something that requires a bit of consideration. Gardening, in general, will require some time and effort, as well as a bit of planning ahead. There are, however, a great many benefits to starting your own organic garden.

The first benefit, of course, is that you can avoid many of the toxic pesticides commonly used on fruits and vegetables you’d find in the supermarket. You can also ensure that you’re not being exposed to genetically modified foods by purchasing heirloom seeds.

Another benefit are the nutrients your soil will receive via proper care and the use of organic fertilizers as well as organic mulch.

As with anything, there are potential drawbacks. One of these drawbacks is that you won’t be able to plant as much as you might think. With organic gardening, the key is to plant what is good for your area and in the proper timeframe. With organic gardening, plants that aren’t naturally suited to your geographic area won’t grow the way that they should.

Another is that you’ll have to experiment with a variety of pest and disease control. It is important that you pay attention to your plants in order to ensure that they are all healthy. Weed control may also require a bit more time and dedication, as you’ll have to adjust how you care for your garden and pay more attention to the presence of weeds.

However, weed and pest control can be incredibly cost effective when you are organic gardening, as many methods to control these common bothers can be found around the house. Others won’t cost much at all, as it can revolve mostly around how and where you plant your garden. The same is true of organic fertilizers: they are easily found and will not cost much, if anything at all.

The beauty of organic gardening is that you can enjoy the fruits of your labors and, with a bit of elbow grease, you can also enjoy these fruits at a fraction of the cost of fruits and vegetables in the store.

So while there may be drawbacks to organic gardening, they’re also drawbacks that can be easily overcome. All you’ll need is the knowledge of what to do given certain circumstances. And with some care and time, you can easily find yourself with an abundance of fruits and vegetables from your very own organic garden.
